tackled a theme on how good quality low range could be reproduced
from our new small system sized 32D x 35W x 63H cm. For that,
we adopted a different conception for driver unit. Diameter was
determined to be 18cm, magnetic circuit was improved, voice coil
was made on KSL idea, and paper diaphragm was reinforced. Enclosure
was assumed by Tatematsu Onko. All these turned to an outstanding
performance in sound quality as well as frequency response.

An enclosure structured of a musical instrument has been prepared
for dynamic speakers and system which are just like live fossils
coelacanths. A completely different idea has been brought to apparently
orthodox looking speakers. For example the voice coil is made
to KSL configuration, which drastically improved to 'real' sounds
with 'relaxing low frequencies' and much less distortion.
The key in magnetic circuit of the M-18 driver is in how 'ferrous'
portion is reduced. 99.99% pure iron minimally used is hydrogen
anyl processed after precisely lathed. Magnetic pole is a - very
costly Fe-Co alloy Permendure to prevent from magnetic saturation
around the center pole and achieve reproduction of 'relaxing sounds'.
Further, alnico magnets are used for the center and exterior for
the first time in the world, as it has 5 times higher permeability
than ferrite magnet and its u. linearity within small magnetic
field is better than iron. This results in reductions of sound
worsening factors derived from reversed power generation.
