CD Transport, CD Player & hard driveI have spent years looking for a really good compact disc player and at the moment I cannot find one sufficiently "exciting" to be represented by Audio Evidence. The story is different for a CD transport. A CD transport has a similar function to the job of the record player in the "old days" of playing LPs. The old saying "get the front end right" still holds good in the reproduction of music via the medium of compact disc. It is essential to choose a good CD transport into the system. Head and shoulder above every other CD transport (so say much of the audio press) is the 47Lab PiTracer. It is truly a piece of audio art and sounds quite different and superior to all others that we know. The PiTracer is "clever" because it tracks a CD in a similar way to a tonearm and cartridge tracking an LP. Kimura San invented a method whereby the lazar head constantly adjusts its angel to follow the altering angle of the CD as it spins. This allows for a dramatic improvement in sound quality. This improvement makes listening to music (via the medium of compact disc) really enjoyable. For those who thought that CDs were a "lost cause" as a medium, think again! The PiTracer is good news for those owning CDs because they can now really be enjoyed rather than used only as beer mats!
The less expensive 47Lab transports, the Flatfish and the Shigaraki both undertake wonderful work at resolving compact discs at a lower price point.
